# Financial Periods

Financial Periods controls the years and periods in which the selected company may post.

## Viewing financial periods

The list presents financial years and their status. Open a year to see its periods, date boundaries, and whether each period is open or closed. Always confirm the selected company before changing a period.

## In use

A year or period is in use when documents have posted into it. Closing controls future posting; it does not remove or rewrite entries already recorded.

## Create a new financial period

Use the available add action to create the next financial year and its periods. Date boundaries must be continuous, non-overlapping, and consistent with the company's financial-year start.

## Make changes

Use the detail screen to review year and period boundaries and apply the permitted state changes. Structural date changes may be blocked after posting.

## Change status

Open a period to permit eligible postings. Close it when processing and review are complete. Reopen only under the organization's period-control policy and close it again after the correction.

## Delete

Delete only an unused future year where the screen permits it. Posted years and periods are permanent financial structure.
